An Exploration Of Difficulties Faced By Laos Students Within The Process Of Learning Chinese Characters

This article compared the Laos writing system with the Chinese character writingsystem. In addition, the author of this paper investigated different aspects of Laos studentslearning Chinese characters. The paper summarized the difficulties faced by Laos studentswhen learning to write Chinese character strokes, stroke order and writing characterswithin a frame structure. This article also explored methods of training students to bemindful of Chinese character strokes and rules related to stroke order and to writingcharacters, relevant cultural information as well as imagery within characters as part of theprocess of teaching students to write in Chinese and memorize characters. This paperpointed out ways to emphasize the shape of different characters, and explain how wordsmay change when different characters are combined, in order to provide countermeasuresfor Laos students who find it difficult to identify the correct pronunciation of characterswhich undergo change within different contexts.
