Research On Variation Rule Of Clause Order Of Hypotaxis Descriptive ’Cause&Effect’Complex In Modern Chinese

Using the Center for Chinese Linguistics PKU of Peking University corpus and qualitative method, the article conduct descriptive study on the variation clause order of hypotaxis descriptive ’cause&effect’ complex in modern Chinese, then explain the reasons for variation phenomenon.The whole thesis is made up of five chapters, the main idea of each as follow. The first chapter for the introduction, reviewing and summarizing the previous research achievements of Modern Chinese word order and complex sentence clause order. The research significance for clause order of ’cause&effect’ complex in Modern Chinese is expounded. Meantime, the related situations of this paper are described.The second to the fourth chapter is the main part. The second chapter firstly introduces the connotation and extension of hypotaxis descriptive ’cause&effect’ complex. Then, this kind of complex sentence is classified according to the different clause order:one is ’cause-effect’ complex of the cause clauses are in the former and the effect clauses are in the behind, the other is ’effect-cause’ complex of the effect clauses are in the former and the cause clauses are in the behind. At last, we determine the conventional clause order and variation clause order according to statistical data. The result is that ’cause-effect’ complex is the conventional clause order and ’effect-cause’ complex is the variation clause order.The third chapter is the descriptive study to the phenomenon of variation on clause order. On one hand we study the relationship between variation and styles, on the other hand we research the relationship between variation and markers. The final conclusion is that the variation clause order is most frequently used in conversation style. Literary style comes after it. Variation phenomenon appears less in news style, scientific style and official style.The fourth chapter explores the phenomenon of variation formed for six reasons. They are highlight the information focus, supplementary explanation, strengthen continuity, foreign influence, prosodic and rhythm needed, attract attention with unfamiliar (defamiliarization).The last chapter is conclusion, including the summary of this paper work done, some exposition of the main characteristics in the paper, reflection on the deficiencies and the future works.
