A Research On Anhui Intangible Cultural Heritage——Hongshan Play

Intangible cultural heritage, as the historical testimony of social civilization and the common wealth of mankind, contains the unique national spirits and aesthetic experience. Reflecting people’s unique pursuit towards culture and character creation in life, intangible cultural heritage possesses the significant research values. The subject of this research, Hongshan play, known as "incense play", is enrolled into the first batch of intangible cultural heritage of Anhui province in2006. Hongshan play has been popular in Lai’an County in Anhui Province, Tianchang as well as its neighboring city---Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province, Luhe District, Xuyi County and so on. Aiming at arousing other researchers’concern on this kind of intangible cultural heritage---Hongshan play and promoting its inheritance and progress, this thesis focuses on its formation, development, its traditional repertoires, and its protectionThis thesis starts with sketching out the definition and classification of intangible cultural heritage as well as the current situation of Hongshan play, basically bedding for the body part. The first chapter investigates on the formation and the evolution of Hongshan play including three aspects, which is its formation, prosperity, decline and new developmental opportunities. Chapter Two makes an overview on incense activities in Lai’an areas, then introduces the classical Hongshan plays:"Six Books of Tang Dynasty’s Tales", and narrates the tales respectively including " Woodcutter Yuan ferries","Weizheng chop off the old dragon","KingTang’s journey to the nether world""Monk Tang’s pilgrimage’’,"Liu Chuan sends watermelons","Be punished for his father". Finally the thesis focuses on the origins of the tale " KingTang’s journey to the nether world". The third chapter offers some measures and methods to protect and blossom Hongshan play, which specifically consists of five parts:improving the government’s management, increasing propaganda of Hongshan play, attaching the importance to the troupe construction, strengthening the repertoire production, and developing the performance.Hongshan play is a kind of ancient drama in Lai’an with a unique artistic charm and values of academic research. The study on the ancient drama further improves the research towards the traditional plays as intangible cultural heritage and promotes the protection and progress of intangible cultural heritage of the same kind.
