Modern Chinese characters function as the writing symbol of the modern Chinese language. It originated and developed from the ancient characters. In the thousands of years of evolution, tremendous changes have taken place respecting to the formation, pronunciation and significance of those characters, which is one of the reasons explaining the particulates in the reading, recognizing and writing modern characters. This dissertation aims to do a full research of those token-element-contained Chinese characters in the range of the Outline of frequency-leveled character, with the purpose of improving the teaching methods and enhancing the teaching efficiency of Chinese characters to foreign students and supporting a more in-depth analysis.It consists of five sections and each of them elaborates several practical and theatrical questions related to the theme.The first part introduces the origin, the status, the content and the method of this research. It proves that the current research is insufficiently comprehensive and there are still many issues worthy of further exploration.The second part discusses how to sort out the token-element-contained Chinese characters and makes a description of the2905characters in the outline using the same standards and principles. By doing this, four kinds of elements and seven types of structures have been detected.17.28%of them are Characters containing token elements. Meanwhile, it studies on the feature of token elements with respects to the quantity, distribution, producing capacity, the number of strokes, relative position and origin and the list39Most-Frequently-Used Token Elements is made. The third part focuses on the overall program of teaching and learning Token-Element-composed Characters and the teaching method by consulting to the results of analysis in the frame of teaching Chinese characters to the foreign students as a whole.The forth part does a design of teaching case based on the real material and shows how to combine the theory with the practice step by step.The fifth part is the conclusion, which sums up the main points and the general ideas, illustrates the insufficient of this article, and gives several advices for the related work in the future.
