The Music Analysis And Playing Of Schumann’s "C Major Fantasia" Op.17

Romantic in the 19th century. As Schumann loved literature from childhood, not only had his compositions the true feelings of individuals, but also embodied the Romantic period of literature and poetic temperament style. In the creation of the Schumann’s works, piano music had a prominent position; his most famous piano works were composed during the decade from 1830 to 1840. "C Major Fantasia" OP.17 was composed in this period; it was large and full of fantasy colors, which was one of the most representatives of the large-scale music in the Romantic period.This paper will analyze Schumann’s "C Major Fantasia" from several aspects, which include the compose background, the musical structure, the different playing styles, and compare it to the other composers’Fantasia of this period, so that further in-depth understanding and mastery of Schumann’s musical style and playing skills. This paper is divided into three sections:Chapter one: Schumann and "C Major Fantasia." It mainly describes the personal life of Schumann and the compose background and musical structure of the "C Major Fantasy".Chapter two: how to play Schumann’s "C Major Fantasia". The chapter is divided into two parts. In one part, it overviews this work more comprehensive from the music, image, touch keys, style and other aspects. In the other part, it summarizes the compose characteristics of "C Major Fantasia" from the headline, melodic singing, rhythm characteristics, polyphonic texture, musical form. Meanwhile it describes the difficult fragment of the practice methods.Chapter three: Fantasia’s historical development and characteristics. For analyze the characteristics of Fantasia, it overviews the formation and development of Fantasia, and it compares the different periods of the composer’s Fantasia.I hope to experience deeper Schumann’s compose intent, understand and grasp his music style more detailed by researching and anglicizing "C Major Fantasia".
