Developmental assets is a core concept of psychology of adolescent developmentin recent years, refers to a series of effective promotion of all results of the healthydevelopment of youth - related experiences, relationships, skills and values, It is topromote the healthy development of youth social and psychological advantage,includes 20 external assets and 20 internal assets. The more development assets youthhave, the more likely to get positive development, enhancing positive developmentoutcomes and reducing negative behavior appeared. Self-esteem, briefly refers to apositive or negative attitude of the individuals on their own. It is an important aspectof self - development of youth, having important significance for the development ofindividuals’ mental health. Pathological internet use is a hot issue of general concernof the entire society. With the development of computer and the use of internet,network brings humans convenient. At the same time, it intangible harms to thephysical and psychological development of young people. The paper selectsdevelopmental assets, self-esteem and pathological internet use as research variables,trying to explore the relationship between the three, to provide the scientific basis oftheoretical research and application practices in the future.The research used the questionnaire method, including Developmental Assetsquestionnaire, RSES and APIUS, randomly selected 582 junior students as subjects,and used analysis of variance, correlation, regression analysis and other statisticalmethods for analysis and processing, the following finding were obtained in the study:1. Junior middle students have an average of 18 developmental assets. There aresignificant differences on developmental assets, external and internal assets of juniormiddle students in the school. Urban junior middle students have significantly moredevelopmental assets than rural ones. There are significant differences on externalassets of junior middle students in the grade. The first grade has significantly moreexternal assets than the third grade, and the interaction between schools and grades in the external assets is significant.2. Junior middle students have a higher overall self-esteem level. There aresignificant differences on self-esteem of junior middle students in the school, urbanjunior middle students have significantly higher self-esteem level than rural ones.3. Detection rate of pathological internet use of junior students is 9.1 percent,boys accounted for 77 percent. Total number of developmental assets, external andinternal assets, and self-esteem of normal groups are significantly higher than PIUgroups. There are significant differences on pathological internet use of junior middlestudents in the gender.4. The developmental assets of junior middle students show positive correlationto self-esteem and negative correlation to pathological internet use.5. The developmental assets of junior middle students have a significantlypositive forecast role on their self–esteem and a significantly negative forecast roleon their pathological internet use.6. Self-esteem of junior middle students has some intermediary effect betweendevelopmental assets and pathological internet use.The paper focuses on how to improve the level of self-esteem of junior middlestudents and reduce their pathological internet use, and puts forward severaleducational suggestions to promote the positive development of young people.
