Shyness is thought to reflect a preoccupation of the self during real or imaginedsocial situations and is accompanied by feelings of negative self-worth.Some haveargued that shyness reflects an emotion elicited by feelings of shame andembarrassment that lead to social inhibition.Shyness is a ubiquitous phenoment thatover 90% of the population have reported experiencing at some point in theirlives.Shyness of Chinese undergraduates is more common than in other countries.Social inhibition in public seriously influence their social interaction. So furtherinvestigation of shyness undergraduates is very important. This research adopted questionnaire survey and eye movement. At first weselected some undergraduates whose shyness is at a high level and others whoseshyness is at a low level by Undergraduates Shyness Scale. Study 1 adopted a mixeddesign of 2×2×2.Shyness is between-group independence variable, material qualityand materal nature are within-group independence variable, and eye movement indexis dependent variable. The goal is to compare the difference between the two groups inattention bias when adopted words and face as stimulus and the validity of face andwords. Study 2 also adopted a mixed design of 2×2×2.Shyness is between-groupindependence variable, presentation time and materal nature are within-groupindependence variable, and eye movement index is dependent variable. It compared thedifferences of attention bias between the two groups in different time processing, whenadopted face as stimulus. The results indicate as following by the two experiments:(1)In index of first fixation time ,face is shorter than time of word;shynessundergraduates are shorter than no-shyness partners;time of violent stimulus is shorterthan that of non-violent ones.(2)First fixation index of face is more than that of word;shynessundergraduates are more than no-shyness partners in this index. (3)First gaze ratio of face is more than that of word; shyness undergraduatesare more than no-shyness partners;in the group of shyness undergraduates, first gazeratio of violent stimulus is shorter than that of non-violent ones.(4)First fixation dwell time of shyness group is longer than that of non-shynessgroup;this index of face is longer than that of word.(5)In the group of shyness undergraduates, fixation ratio of violent stimulus ismore than that of non-violent ones.(6)Fixation count of face is more than that of word; in the group of shynessundergraduates, fixation count of violent stimulus is more than that of non-violentones.(7)Fixation dewll time of face is longer than that of word; in the group ofshyness undergraduates, fixation dewll time of violent stimulus is longer than that ofnon-violent ones.(8)Pulil size max of shyness group is more than that of non-shyness group.thisindex of violent stimulus is more than that of non-violent ones.(9)In index of direction of eye movements, scores of 1250ms is morethan500ms; scores of shyness group is more than non-shynss froup; in presentativetime of 500ms, scores of violent stimulus is more than that of non-violent ones.(10)In index of first fixation latency bias, scores of 500ms is less than 1250ms;scores of shyness group is less than non-shynss froup; in presentative time of 500ms,scores of shyness group is less than that of non-shyness groups; scores of violentstimulus is less than that of non-violent ones.(11)In index of first duration bias, scores of shyness group is more thannon-shynss froup; scores of violent stimulus is more than that of non-violent ones. inpresentative time of 500ms, scores of violent stimulus is more than that of non-violentones.(12)In index of gaze duration bias, scores of 500ms is more than1250ms; inpresentative time of 1250ms, scores of violent stimulus is more than that ofnon-violent ones, and scores of shyness group is more than that of non-shyness group;in presentative time of 500ms, scores of violent stimulus is more than that of non-violent ones.
