Chinese animation film actually leaps earlier into the world circle than the feature film. For Chinese animation film, the earliest founders are famous Four Wan BrothersThere appeared the first animation advertisement named Shu Zhendong Chinese Typewriter in1922in our country. Princess Iron Fan, which originated from Journey to the West is a milestone in Chinese movie history, and is the fourth animated feature film in the world. It causes tremendous public response both at home and abroad. In1960s, The Monkey King:Uproar in Heaven became a big hit both at home and abroad. It won the Best Picture at the22nd London International Film Festival. However, after the glorious period, the development of Chinese animation slowed down and even came to a halt. Fortunately, in the new century, the government began to support national animation and at present there are thousands of animation companies. In2008, a new force suddenly rose in Chinese animation filed. Its name is Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf.The supporting theory for this thesis is skopos theory (German:Skopostheorie) which is a concept from the field of translation studies. It was established by the German linguist Hans Vermeer and comprises the idea that translating and interpreting should primarily take into account the function of both the source and target text.Skopos theory focuses on translation as an activity with an aim or purpose, and on the intended addressee or audience of the translation. To translate means to produce a target text in a target setting for a target purpose and target addressees in target circumstances. In skopos theory, the status of the source text is lower than it is in equivalence-based theories of translation.Under the guidance of skopos theory, this thesis analyzes the English subtitle translation of three Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf film series. The innovative points of this thesis are:1. using skopos theory as the theory support of subtitle translation of Chinese animation film;2. choosing the domestic animation representative:Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf film series as the research materials, and analyzing the general translation methods and methods about culture-loaded words and sentences with some suggestions about inappropriate translation parts. This thesis is intended to attract the attention and concern of translation scholars about subtitle translation of Chinese animation film, and supplies new vision for animation subtitle translation. Supply the domestic animation films with most appropriate subtitle translation and support them to be introduced overseas and get brilliant in the world.
