Research Of Critical Theory Of Frankfurt School Mass Culture

The mass culture critical theory is an important part of Frankfurt School’s society critical theory system. At the same time, it is also an important theoretical basis for the later study of the mass culture and the origin. Along with the development of era and the progress of science and technology, the mass culture gradually seeped into people’s daily lives in the process of constant development. And it also has a significant impact on people’s thinking and understanding of the behavior. Therefore, correct understanding of the mass culture is becoming a very urgent problem increasingly.This paper aims to study the mass culture of the Frankfurt School’s critical theory. First, we start from the definition of the meaning of the culture and the mass culture in the Frankfurt School context. Then,we described the social background of the birth of the theory and theoretical origin of Frankfurt School mass critical culture. And we discuss the process of development of the critical theory of Frankfurt mass culture. Combed Horkheimer, Adorner, Benjamin, Marcuse and Hagerman’s thought of mass culture. After that we focused on the main content of Frankfurt School’s mass culture critical theory. And we thought depth about its theoretical value and limitations. Finally, we linked the development of the critical theory of Frankfurt mass culture and china’s contemporary mass culture. We analyzed the reasons for the rise of China’s contemporary mass culture, development status and its impact on society. We also analyzed the applicability of the critical theory of Frankfurt School mass culture in China.The Frankfurt School’s mass culture critical theory subject to the restrictions of the theoretical basis and historical background while showing a certain theoretical limitations. But this does not erase its theoretical value. Its critical spirit and its theoretical content has a very important inspiration for us to deepen our theoretical study and correct understanding of popular culture, as well as to promote the healthy development of our contemporary mass culture.
