With the rapid growth of globalization, people from different countries exchanges and cooperatesmore frequently. With China’s comprehensive national strength continued to improve, the exchangechannels of Chinese and foreigners is more abundant, and the foreigners learn Chinese enthusiasm. Butmisunderstanding and conflict in the process of intercultural communication happens to the foreignstudents very often. New questions and challenges raises to the teaching of intercultural communication inour country’s TCSL.Intercultural communication has two forms: one is verbal communication, it completes with theverbal behavior; the other one is nonverbal communication, it completes with the nonverbal behavior. Asassistance to verbal communication, Nonverbal communication plays a role which cannot be substituted byverbal communication, or even it play the role which verbal communication can’t.The main purpose of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is training the student’s ability of usingChinese in intercultural communication. Because of the significance of nonverbal behavior is rooted incertain cultures and reflects different culture, so non-verbal behavior of different nationalities reflectsdifferent cultural connotation and characteristics. When students from different countries communicatewith the people of different culture, they may misunderstand each other’s nonverbal communicativebehavior because of different cultural background knowledge. However, nonverbal communication inteaching Chinese as a foreign language did not been paid enough attention for a long time, culturalbarriers and cultural conflict because of nonverbal communication failures often happens to foreignstudents, so we should put the nonverbal communication in a proper position. On one hand we shouldstrengthen the education and teaching reform, on the other hand we should improve the teacher’s teachingability of intercultural education in teaching of Chinese as a second language. And we need to strengthenthe student’s intercultural verbal communicative competence and intercultural nonverbal communicativecompetence at the same time, it is the way to make the students’ intercultural communicative competencemore comprehensive to cope with the increasingly frequent international communication needs, this oureducational purpose. This paper introduces the present situation of the study of nonverbal communication, researchingmethods, the forms and cultural differences of nonverbal communication. And it analyses the presentsituation and the reason of the students’ intercultural nonverbal communication. It explores how to cultivatestudents’ intercultural nonverbal communication competence from the teaching, teachers, teaching syllabus.
