This translation task aims at the translation of an American novel, It Can’t Happen Herewritten by Sinclair Lewis, which is provided by the Bilingual Project of Foreign LanguageTeaching and Research Press(FLTRP). The novel’s translation is done by the present author(from Chapter4to Chapter7) and the six other translators collaboratively. Up to now, there isno Chinese version of this novel in our country, so this translation sets up a new bridge for aprofound research of Sinclair Lewis.The detailed process of translating is written down in this paper:Firstly, the source of the text, the lifetime and the writing style of the writer, the features,the style as well as the general content of the novel are briefly described.Secondly, the process of translating—preparation, comprehension, expression andchecking is briefly described.Thirdly, the translation difficulties and their solutions in the process of translating areelaborated, such as the long sentences, the figures of speech, etc.Finally, the paper summarizes the present author’s gains on translation, which alsoindicates the professional and personal qualities a translator should have.
