Oscar Wilde is a dazzling meteor in the development process of drama in theUnited Kingdom and is the representative for aestheticism in the19thcentury. It istrue that his dramas had exerted big influences on China after many versions oftranslations. It has been roughly calculated that drams and other literature works ofWilde have been introduced to China over100years ago that have enriched thecontemporary literature history after ups and downs.It is a tough task for translation of drama works of Wilde and it is also not aneasy thing to do to compare different versions and find out representative priorities;at the same materials of translations and relevant information should be integratedinto the scope of survey and research, which requires numerous particular work. Inthe late years, research on Wilde drama has been improved and against thisbackdrop, it is believed that studies on translation works of Wilde’s dramas in thelate years would prove to be beneficial for the research orientation of studies onWilde.Chapter one mainly starts with the translation status of Wilde’s dramas during‘May Four’ period to perceive influence and response generated on introduction ofaestheticism, reflect treatment of China on translation of Wilde’s dramas during‘May Four’ period and in the1920s and introduce its internal reasons; chapter twotakes translation of Wilde’s dramas in the1930s and1940s as the target tointroduce emergence of first tide to its back-down of translation of Wilde’s worksbefore analyzing social and cultural resources for changes of circumstances duringdifferent eras followed by reflections on its significance and values by combiningwith partial translation materials on his dramas by different authors; chapter threecarries out analysis on the promotion changes progress of translation versions ofWilde’s dramas in China in20thcentury as a whole and by dint of changes ofinfluence on the academic circle of his dramas as well as translations ofcontemporary authors, it describes the mindsets of China’s literature realm towards new things and re-acknowledges&re-orients this great author.
