AliBaba and Forty Thieves is a well-known world children’s classical literature. It has been translated into Chinese by quite a number of Chinese translators. Based on the report writer’s own Chinese-English translation of the edited Chinese version of AliBaba and Forty Thieves provided by the Changjiang literature and art publishing house, the present translation practice report introduces briefly the process of the completion of this translation task, discusses and analyzes the translation methods with practical examples, and summarizes the experiences gained from the translation practice.The report consists of five parts. The first part is an introduction of the purpose and background of the report. Meanwhile, it briefly explains the present situation of the translation of children’s literature in China. The second part explores the definition of children’s literature and the features and principles of children’s literature translation. The third part gives an overall introduction to the present translation task, its purpose and the requirements from the publishing house. The fourth part reports in detail the Chinese-English translation practice of Alibaba and Forty Thieves. It also discusses the main methods used in this translation practice with specific examples. The fifth part is the conclusion. It summarizes the experiences and inspirations gained by the translator (i.e. the present report writer), the limitations of the translation as well as some suggestions for the development of the translation of children’s literature in China.The significance of the report lies in, with practical examples and the experience gained by the report writer, analyzing the translation procedures and summarizing the principles and methods for the Chinese-English translation of children’s literature, and offering some suggestions for the further development of the translation practice and studies in this field. It is hoped that this report could provide some beneficial reference for the research and practice of the Chinese-English translation of children’s literature.
