This article try to analyze two Intermediate Chinese Spoken textbooks—commonly used in universities, from the point of view of nurturing students’ communicative competence. Closely linked to the training objectives in this particular phase, the analysis uses the statistical analysis method and comparative analysis method to make a detailed analysis on the layout, text, and oral skill training. The corresponding recommendations are also given in every section.The article first determines the requirements for oral skill in the intermediate stage. In terms of text, the article focuses on the text form (the monologue form, dialogue form), communication angle and communicative roles. In terms of functionality, the article focuses on whether the selected terms serve the objectives. In terms of oral skill training, the article emphasizes in the pertinence and validity, and gives recommendations to improve them.
