Bu Dai Xi, also named Puppet Show, means that actors complete the performance by the controlling of the puppets with their hands. It is a regional drama which is popular in the southern Fujian and Taiwan. It now has the largest influence and scale among the TV Bu Dai Xi in Taiwan. This dissertation is divided into three chapters, which respectively discuss the art orientation, the role behavior and the cultural implication of PiLi Drama. First, through the research of the art formation of PiLi Drama, these dissertation summaries its art features and classifies it into puppet animation. With the combination of the traditional Bu Dai Xi performance and the modern film technique, PiLi Drama, through innovation and reform, boasts both the feature of Bu Dai Xi and that of modern film technique and becomes a fantastic puppet animation. The second chapter analyzes the story features of PiLi Drama. With the employment of Propp’s role function theory, it summaries the common role patterns and the behaviors, and tries to answer how PiLi Drama makes the story "never end". In the end, the dissertation shows the cultural implications of PiLi Drama by the example of the appreciation and discard of the Confucian culture and points out the positive and negtive influence of PiLi Drama. The dissertation presents PiLi Drama’s inheritage and reform of the traditional Bu Dai Xi and summaries its achievements in art and commercial field.
