Analysis On The Miao Embroidery Pattern In Western Hunan Areas

Miao embroidery in Western Hunan, as the national art of embroidery, is always considered as one of the intangible culture heritages of China with its long history, extensive themes, flamboyant color, exquisite composition, consummate craftwork, exuberant implication, reveals the unpretending aesthetic sentiment and romantic artistic style. This paper mainly categorizes the Miao embroidery patterns into "animal patterns""plant patterns""geometrical patterns" and "other patterns" according to the theme and cultural connotation through analyzing the history, artistic features, style and their application in modern design of Miao embroidery, and generalize the composition form to be the three types as "symmetry and proportion","freedom and comformality " as well as "scattering and reconstruction". All these artistic features are closely connected with the history, society, culture, folk customs and aesthetic appreciation. However, nowdays the craftsmanship of Miao clothing is facing a serious loss, therefore, the analysis of the artistic features of the decorative patterns of them will impose important inspiration and reference function on modern pattern design.
