Sub-culture music is a manifestation of the sub-culture which was initially developedby the development of African American music and introduced to China from the1980s.On the special national circumstances, the development of Chinese sub-culturemusic forms has caused a shift from the West. With the mass communication technologycontinuing to be strengthened, the sub-culture music has showed a paradox--on one hand,the sub-culture music is non-commercial; on the other hand, it is commercialized. Basedon this, we need to reconsider the process that the Chinese subculture is going to beincorporated by the mainstream.Author believes that the subculture music is not to go to a single path of developmentin the consumer era,and we need to understand the issues such as relations between theChinese subculture music and consumer social by studying the development history ofChinese subculture misic、the contemporary social environment of China、the developmentpatterns of subculture music and other aspects.In this paper, the exposition is divided into five chapters. The first chapter focuses onthe discrimination of subculture music, and study the trends of its scope by combining thedevelopment of subculture music. Second and third chapters respectively analysis the threespaces of subculture music—music festivals、bars which are the most important spreadspaces and the “artificial space” of subculture music. And they will illustratethe,multi-dimensional and polymorphic “duplex” and “polyphony” characteristics ofChinese subculture music by combining with the economic development process ofChinese consumer society、the development trend of subculture music spreading modewhich is represented by new media technology and development of mass consumer society.In the fourth chapter, author will put subculture music as a way of life, and try to explain the relationship between the significance of subculture and the mainstream consciousnessfrom an ideological point of view. Finally, the epilogue is the paper’s conclusions whichwere summarized that the rebirth of the subculture music in the new media environmentwill lead to the formation of a new culture forms--in addition to its business incorporated,it provides another possibility to the development of subcultures.
