With the development of the society, English is playing a more and moreimportant role in China。 Therefore, English teaching plays a decisive role in theuniversities. Speech is the shell material of a language, the correct pronunciation forlearning English is very important. However, language learners are often confusedabout their native speech and the target language thus affect the correct phoneticlearning. As the Chaoshan dialect and English are absolute different languages, affected by their dialects, the English learners from Chaoshan area can’t learn thecorrect pronunciation easily. Also, the students from Chaoshan area were almost bornin remote areas, most of their English teachers are local people with poor English. Inthe past, the student’s language learning environments are mainly in China, theiractivities in class were rarely involved in oral practice. Therefore, to help the studentsto distinguish the English phonetic system and native speech system is very necessary. It is not only conductive to correct the students’ pronunciation but also benefit thequality of English teaching.Based on the previous studies of language transfer, I used the Method ofcomparative analysis to study the negative transfer to English pronunciation caused byChaoshan dialect. By comparing the different phonetic systems of English andChaoshan dialect. I may point out the teaching link that English teachers should payattention to. By using experiment, questionnaire etc, I will try to find the teachingmethods to overcome the negative transfer. In the end, I will record the process of theexperiment and make a conclusion.
