Effect Of Dingxi Dialect On English Phonetics And Phonetics Teaching In High Vocational School

English phonetics learning plays an important role in the whole English study and teaching,as phonology is the material shell of language,phonetics learning is also important for the study of grammar,words and phrases,writing and translation.There will not be the good foundation of learning language without good phonetics acquisition,so we must pay more attention to phonetics learning in the process of English learning or teaching.However,the methods of emphasized grammar and the purpose of test that we have long formed and the mother tongue and different dialects all greatly affect the present English learning and teaching.The paper discusses the effect of Dingxi dialect on English phonetics learning from the viewpoint of language transfer,and put forwards some useful methods English phonetics teaching.According to language transfer theory,any foreign or second languages will be affected by mother tongue or first language.Language transfer contains positive and negative transfer,there will be great negative transfer and small positive transfer if there are great differences between the target language and mother tongue,and vice versa.English and Chinese are two different language systems,English belongs to Indo--european language system;Chinese belongs to Sino--tibetan language system.There are great differences in many factors,especially in phonetics,there are also many kinds of dialects in China,which produce many difficulties in studying it.For the native speakers,the formed language thinking mode is bound to impact the target language or second language learning.So the paper discusses the negative transfer of Dingxi dialect on English segmental phonemes,find out the problems of students speech and give some suggestions from the investigation of students? speech status of English majors in Dingxi normal college from Dingxi district.The paper contains six parts.The first one is the introduction,including research purpose and research significance.The second one is to summarizes the research results of second acquisition and language transfer at home and abroad.The third one is the summary of Language Transfer and Contrast Theory.The forth part is the key of the paper,is to compare and analyze the differences of Dingxi dialect and English vowels and consonants,and find out the specific speech problems based on the data analysis to the research object of the spoken language,and give a teaching case to improve English phonetics teaching in the end.The five part is the findings and discussions.The last part is the conclusion that Dingxi dialect has effect on English vowels and consonants learning,and put forward the feasible teaching methods and strategies.The objects chosen come from English major freshmen of Dingxi Normal College in Dingxi city,we can get the conclusion from the analysis on the speech test and the questionnaire survey.1.Dingxi dialect has negative transfer on students? English phonetics learning,especially on some vowels and consonants that have great differences between dialect or some vowels and consonants that do not exist in dialect.2.From the students? phonetics background knowledge,the object students have not get the systematic English phonetics knowledge,so it is very fuzzy;different phonetics learning backgrounds have different effects on their later phonetics learning.3.Teachers? exploratory phonetics teaching improves the subjects? phonetics level to some extent.Besides teachers? exploratory phonetics teaching,the most important thing is that students should study English phonetics system fully and get phonetics knowledge,and also know the pronunciation rules of dialect.Knowing the differences can learn English effectively and make error correction.Secondly,students should be input pure English language by using all beneficial resources,more listen,more speak,more limitation.Of course,the disadvantages of the paper were put forward in the end because of many kinds of limits.
