The Comparison And Research On The Four Versions Of The "Modern Chinese Dictionary"

Dialect words is an important component in the collected words for the "Modern ChineseDictionary". In this paper, through a comparison conducted respectively on the collecteddialect words among the four versions of the test plate,1978,1996and2005of "ModernChinese Dictionary", We figured out the statistics about the retention, increase, reduction ofthe dialect words and the increase, reduction and improvement of dialect words’ meaning. Itchiefly contains the relations between dialect words and the entry of the standardvocabulary from the aspects of collecting standards and the evolution trend of dialect words,the reasons for evolution based on the "Modern Chinese Dictionary".According to previous studies, as well as our longitudinal comparison on the fourversions of the "Modern Chinese Dictionary", we conclude that the standards for collectingwords are versatility, the basic and the deletion, and the evolution of dialect words is fromcompletely ordinary vocabulary of dialect words to ordinary vocabulary, oral words andwritten words. The reasons for the evolution are analyzed from the perspective of the wholeworld and functional linguistics, the perspective of the whole world is further divided intoobjective world, subjective world and linguistic world. Functional linguistics analyzes thereason for the change of dialect words from two aspects: the internal language and externallanguage.Through the research of the marks on the dialect words and standard vocabulary, we cansee that dialect words enriching standard vocabulary and standard vocabulary guiding thespecification for dialect words. Finally, some recommendations is proposed for thecoexistence of other words and Mandarin Chiese vocabulary, namely to lay down detailedfeasible rules for collecting dialect words and to make corresponding adjustments ofnational policies, to promote the bilingual co-existence as well. Hoping promote MandarinChiese vocabulary, at the same time, protect the region dialect.
