The Confucius Analects, with a far-reaching influence on the Chinese people, is one of the Chinese ancient books which have been most frequently translated. Having been translated and retranslated into various foreign languages during the past400years and more, it has played an important role in the cultural exchange between China and other countries, contributing to the dissemination of Chinese culture and impacting on the western civilization. There have been more than50English versions of The Confucius Analects by different translators from various countries in different periods of time, and the historical context of its translations has witnessed a shift from West Centrism to Multiculturalism. For different translation purposes, different translation strategies and methods have been taken. This thesis analyzes and evaluates three representative English versions translated in the context of West centrism. It may help remove unequal cultural psyche in the translation of Chinese classics and realize equal dialogue and exchange between Chinese culture and western cultures.
