The theoretical basis for this research is the theory of language use and language attitude, a kind of traditional and major research method in the realm of social linguistics. Many scholars both home and abroad related to this particular academic fields have taken great interest in doing research about the language use and language attitude. And a number of studies have been conducted on it and a lot of constructive academic achievements related to this topic have come out. And it encourages the researcher to do a research on the Mongolian language use and language attitude of young Mongolian students in primary and middle schools of nationalities, aiming to examine the usage of Mongolian language among students in primary and middle schools of nationalities in Hohhot as well as their language attitude towards mother tongue, and to briefly discuss the relationship between language use, language attitude and language ability.This study is a quantitative empirical research. Firstly, with the help of distributing questionnaires, it collects the information about Mongolian students in primary and middle schools of nationalities in Hohhot, regarding their personal backgrounds, language environment and language ability to find out the usage of Mongolian language among them and their attitudes towards Mongolian language. Secondly, Appling the method of social statistics, it gives a scientific analysis to the statistics collected from the questionnaires. Thirdly, a comparative analysis on language use, language attitude and language ability is conducted on the basis of the statistics among the Mongolian youngsters in the three primary and middle schools of nationalities in Hohhot (Mongolian School in Hohhot, Primary School of Nationalities in Xing An Road and the Mongolian Language Teaching Class of the Attribute Middle School of Inner Mongolia Normal University, according to the different gender, different grades and classes, and different family background. Lastly, it makes a detailed result description, showing the general information about the usage of Mongolian language among students in primary and middle schools of nationalities in Hohhot as well as their language attitude towards mother tongue.This research comes to a conclusion that most students who participated in this research have a very positive attitude towards their mother tongue Mongolian and hope to maintain its vitality. Furthermore, they also have a positive attitude towards bilingualism and a combined use of Mongolian and Chinese in social communication. And this research also illustrates that the students’ language attitudes have something to do with their personal backgrounds, language environments and language abilities. In this way, this research might make a contribution to research on the Mongolian language form a sociolinguistic perspective.
