During the current age of network information, the application ofmultimedia has brought good news to education, serving more andmore disciplines. Some teachers and scholars have done someresearches on the application of multimedia in vocabulary acquisition.These researches focus on the feasibility and effectiveness of themultimedia for vocabulary acquisition. However, special software forvocabulary acquisition has not occurred. In the author’s opinions,English researchers’ weakness in computer technology stops them fromstudying similar software.I make an exhaustive study of memorizing English words whichhas been described as long-standing and difficult. And then I designedand implemented a new kind of vocabulary memorization softwarewhich is named College English Vocabulary Acquisition Unit with Flash. Itstrives for integrity in content, including the pronunciation, phonetic,Chinese Interpretation, synonyms, antonyms, derived words,collocations, example sentences, and the method of wordmemorization. It combines text, images, sound, and animation and canfully stimulate the learners hearing, vision and imagination. So thatstudents will fall in love with words memorization and no longer feel ittedious. In addition, College English Vocabulary Acquisition Unit strivesfor exquisite picture. It is also full of inspiration and humor.College English Vocabulary Acquisition Unit obtains severalEnglish teachers’ affirmation and praise because of its originality,including the chief vocabulary lecturer of New Oriental School. I alsoobtained by experiment that using College Englis VocabularyAcquisition Unit to memorize words is better than the traditionalmethod.
