Role playing and scenario-based teaching are strategies of English teaching, but it’sdifficult to find the combination with the teaching of English at home and abroad. Duringmy career of10years of English teaching in secondary school, role playing andscenario-based teaching are often used together in English teaching practice by my ownexperience. if we can use both of them with a perfect combination, we will achieve goodeffect. And therefore, an exploration was about how to combine both of them inteaching practiceThis study was based on a literature review of previous studies on role-playing andscenario-based classroom instruction. Then a study was conducted on how role-playingcould enhance scenario-based instruction, which has resulted in a deepenedunderstanding of several aspects. On this basis, I focused on analyzing how to play anincreased role of the scenario of the problem, by studying the expansion of knowledgeabout several aspects.Theoretical basis for this study comes from the constructivist and cooperativelearning theory. Both theories provide a good theoretical support. For example, bothconstructivist learning on the learner in the scenario of cooperative learning theory andthe theory of group learning have given the best support to this study.In practicing the above discussed theoretical principles, a preliminary exploration ofhow to combine role-playing and scenario-based teaching practice in English teachingwas designed and conducted. I also illustrate the teaching with some examples, and makesome important principles to ensure effective practice.Finally, this study shows the effectiveness by some actual data, and proposes someimprovement strategies.
