Role play as an emerging teaching method has been widely applied in English teaching in middle and primary schools.However,with the engagement of the process of educational probation,the author has found that the current situation of the application of role-play teaching is not positive and there are misunderstandings of many concepts and the deviation of practice.It seems that many teachers fail to have a full understanding of the teaching method of role play;role playing method has been effectively utilized in English class of primary schools.This issues are urgently required to be paid attention to and studied.This thesis is divided into five sections:The first part is introduction.The writer has stated the reason for selection and summarized related documents at home and abroad to illustrate research thoughts and methods.The second part is about role playing method and its value of application for primary-school English instruction.Firstly,it defines the connotation of role playing method and categories four types based on various standards of classification:imitation and creativity,dialogue and story,preparation before class and stochastic pattern in class,two participants and multiplayers.Secondly,it is concluded that role playing method features education,flexibility,attractiveness and interactivity;thirdly,the value of role playing method in primary-school English instruction has been expounded from three aspects: students,teacher and teaching.The third part is about fundamental elements of role playing method in primaryschool English instruction and its design as well as implementation.Firstly,three basic factors of the method of role play including role,situation and aim has been confirmed.By analyzing primary school English textbook in PEP version presented material contents which are suitable for the adaptation of role playing method and explained principles of design and five steps of implementation which are of purposiveness,operability and high participation.The forth part is to introduce the analysis of current situation of role playingmethod in primary-school English instruction.It proceeds with survey data and interview record of questionnaire and has an analysis and conclusion of issues including the situation created which is absence of enjoyment and simulation,the limited material opted from textbooks and low degree of students' involvement,existing in the application of role playing method for primary-school English instruction through scene creation,material option and student engagement.Causes of these issues are various,which mainly include: teachers' performance is required to be improved;conditions of creation situation are limited;the capacity of teachers to integrate teaching materials is below qualified;there are difference among students' English oral proficiency.The fifth part is to introduce strategies for improving the application of role playing method for primary-school English instruction.It aims at proposing practical and applicable solutions for addressing specific issues according to causes by using stage property and technical support,student diversity,teachers cooperation and practical activity organization and implementation as main points of discussion.Strategies for improvement would be put forward,which are expected to be of referential significance for English teachers of primary schools in better applying role-playing method.
