Objective:The aim of the study was to explore the present situation of the loneliness, social support and coping style of college students, and further discussed the relationship among them, and developed the related research of the college students’psychological health.Methods:584students in a key university in Hunan province whose mean age were19.97±0.97completed the UCLA Loneliness Scale, social support rating scale(SSRS) and Coping Style Questionnaire(CSQ) at one time. By SPSS17.0statistical software for data processing, statistical methods mainly used general descriptive analysis test? variance analysis, correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis.Results:(1) The loneliness levels of university students for secondary and higher accounted for45%of the total sample, the number of students in the low level of loneliness accounted for55%of the total sample. Different genders, one child or do not, urban or rural areas, whether as class cadre loneliness were not significantly different (P>0.05) in the sense of loneliness.By the profession, engineering college students’ loneliness score was significantly higher than the liberal arts and science college students(P<0.05).(2) Girls’score in the objective support, utilization of support and the total score are significantly higher than boys (P<0.01).Non-only-child’s score in the subjective support was significantly higher than the only-child (P<0.01). The score of students who served as class cadre in the subjective support, utilization of support, and total score was significantly higher than the score of students who didn’t serve as class cadre (P<0.01).Urban or rural areas, different professions in social support were not significantly different (P>0.05).(3) The score of college students’coping style from high to low in turn to problem-solving, asking for help, rationalization, fantasy, retreat and remorse. Girls in asking for help score was significantly higher than boys (P<0.01). Only child rationalization score was significantly higher than non-only child (P<0.05). College students from urban area in problem-solving score was significantly higher than students from rural area (P<0.01). College students from urban area in asking help score was significantly higher than students from rural area (P<0.05). Engineering students in problem-solving score was significantly lower than liberal arts and science college students (P<0.01). Engineering students in asking help score was significantly lower liberal arts and science college students (P<0.01). Served as class cadre of students in problem-solving score was significantly higher than didn’t serve as class cadre of university (P<0.05). Served as class cadre of students in asking help score was significantly higher than didn’t serve as class cadre of university (P<0.01).(4) Pearson con-elation analysis results showed:loneliness and all the dimensions of social support, coping style were significantly pairwise correlated (P<0.01). Loneliness was significantly negative correlated with all the dimensions of social support, problems solving and asking help; and was significantly positive with retreat, remorse, fantasy, and rationalization (P<0.01).(5) Regression analysis results showed:remorse, objective support, asking help, problems-solving, utilization of support and retreat can explain28.4%of the level of loneliness.Conclusion:Loneliness, social support and coping style had significant differences in demographic variable, and there was significant correlation among the them. Social support and coping style can partly explain loneliness.
