On August15,1945, victory of Anti-Japanese War brought a festive mood to Korean people in China who could emancipate from the history of colony and look forward to the beginning of a new life. On the other hand, Korean people confronted the social conflicts and political opposition though they had broken the chains of Japanese intruders and got freedom. The thesis aims to study Cui Guo-zhe’s Descendants after Liberation of Korea, applying social historical criticism, sociology of literature, and nationalism theory. It investigates the confused social situation, and the rapid change of public mind after the Land Reform, and the reality having to turn against each other for their own living, and thespian conditions caused by different ideology, and fundamental changes which were brought to Korean people in China by liberation. A Detailed analysis is as follows.Firstly, the original life of Korean people in China during the initial post-liberation period is analyzed. In the early years of liberation, political and military situation was very complicated. Remaining forces left over during the period of Japanese imperialism domination, and armed bandits were constantly threatening the security of Korean people, and thus Korean people fell into a new disorder. However, they didn’t give up the hope of life, cultivated paddy fields, strengthened school education, developed national confidence, and passed down korean traditions, living strong lives.Secondly, in the early years of liberation, the conflict of having to choose their final dwelling place and unusual process of emotional changes during the Land Reform are discussed. As to the choice between returning to Korea and staying in Yanbian, China, over half of the people chose to live in China. The novel described the complicated social problems in this period, showed the process of land reform which had been the most important and sensitive subject at that time, and revealed the corruption of human nature.Thirdly, the authentic significance of liberation to Korean people in China is explained. At the very beginning, the farmers in this novel considered liberation as nothing which would brought no change to life, but later they accepted land reform enthusiastically, and showed great persistence and aspiration to the land. To them, liberation implies solving the land problem, and the expectations for land reform played a decisive role as a turning point to the farmers’ consciousness.
