Puxian Area Temple Fresco Art Research

According to the research at the moment, we have already carried out a large number of researches, which are also quite through, on frescoes that play an important role in art history, such as-the frescoes of Dunhuang and Yongle Palace,etc.On the contrary, few researches have been carried out on some local Monastery Murals. It is worthy of mention that a complete treatise of Putian Temple Murals has not yet come into being. Thus the practical significance of our intention to excavate regional cultures with local characteristics, explore them in various dimensions and protect these precious folk cultures on the verge of disappearing becomes obvious.This article has selected some representative frescoes that exist in several temples in Putian and Xianyou of Fujian as research objects. Investigation and collection of evidence about the historical origins, craftsmanship, artistic characteristics and protection status of the Temple Murals in these two places have been carried out in order to study it, which is operated by using the analyses of field investigation and literature collecting, including picture method and diagram method. All that has been done aims at making a previous foundation for a further study and protection of Temple Murals in these two areas in the future by means of what the writer has done.Through the research, we can say positively that judging either from historical value or artistic value, Temple Murals in Putian and Xianyou is absolutely of great significance to the study of culture and art in Puxian Region.However,we should also notice that the folk art with rich connotations is faced with serious crisis, which gradually drove it to the verge of disappearing on account of the destruction made both by the nature and human beings. That’s the common problem facing the folk traditional art in our country for the moment. Therefore, this article is supposed to truly reflect the actual problems at the moment in an attempt to arouse the attention and protection of the folk art among all the society members through a large amount of field investigation.
