| Zheng Naiguang (1911-2005), who was born Shadi village in Minhou County in Fuzhou, Fujian province, is an artist and art educator with unique styles in contemporary Chinese painting field. He has devoted his whole life to Chinese painting creation and teaching, especially his bird and flower painting with meticulous colors is quite unique, thus greatly enriching the mood, theme, skill, composition, colors and lines etc of Chinese painting, his excellent artistic achievement has become a standard banner in contemporary time and has a significant impact at home and abroad. Besides, he has made his own contribution on exploring the geographical features and seeking to show new contents, new forms and artistic individuality and other aspects of Chinese painting. Zheng Naiguang’s northward to Xi’an in1952to the end of the "Cultural Revolution" is his arduous and glorious artistic creation period, where formed his basic artistic qualities and painting thought which affected his whole life and laid a solid foundation for his establishing schools in his later years. However, for a long time, due to the many historical, practical or other reasons as well as the limitations of non-mainstream cultural and ecological communities in his old age, the intrinsic value of his art and the profound significance of his spirit had not been well excavated, had yet to meet systematic and in-depth research. Therefore, selecting Zheng Naiguang as the research subject has important theoretical values and realistic significance on his art course and Chinese painting development in1950s to1970s in the last century. At the same time, thinking about development on Chinese painting during new time has also been triggered, and thus provides reference and inspiration for contemporary art creation as well. I sincerely hope this paper can help scholars in the future to study Zheng Naiguang systematically, comprehensively and profoundly. |
