This study selected overseas Chinese learners as subjects and developed overseas Chinese learners’familiarity with Chinese traditional culture questionnaire, with which it surveyed about the characteristics and current situation of their familiarity with Chinese traditional culture. Then it studied the influence of familiarity with Chinese traditional culture on words memory with the recognition test. At last intervention experiment was used to study the effect of cultural introduction on words memory. The results showed:1. Self-developed overseas Chinese learners’familiarity with Chinese traditional culture questionnaire included culture icon, concept of value and custom with a good reliability and validity.2. Overseas Chinese learners got score below average in total score and concept of value, the score above average in custom and culture icon. There was no significant gender difference in total score and among three dimensions. There was significant age difference in total score, concept of value and custom but not significant in culture icon. The total score and score in the three dimensions were significantly different in the dimension of duration of staying in China.3. There was significantly difference in recognition total score of overseas Chinese learners with different familiarity with culture.The interaction between familiarity with culture and words’ types was significant. The simple effect of words’ types was significant in low familiarity with culture, not significant in high familiarity with culture.4. Recognition score of overseas Chinese learners experimental treated with different supplementary means were in the descending order of learners treated with culture knowledge introduction, non-culture knowledge introduction and culture knowledge cues introduction.There was nearly significant difference between recognition score of learners with culture knowledge introduction and non-culture knowledge introduction.
