This paper quoted the classification about culture (Zhang Zhan Yi,1984),classifies culture into ‘knowledge culture’ and ‘communicative culture’, mainlystudies on how knowledge culture teaching functioned in overseas Teaching Chineseas a Foreign Language (TCFL).Firstly, I compared and analyzed several point of views about cultureclassification, emphasized why Zhang’s classification is reasonable in OverseasTCFL.Secondly, I explained the special role that knowledge culture teaching is playingwhen the teaching environment is overseas and when students are primary and middleschool students.Thirdly, I collected the attitude and interests in Chinese knowledge culture ofChinese teachers and learners overseas by questionnaires, with great help from manypast and present Chinese teachers and volunteers in some overseas ConfuciusInstitutions.Finally, I introduced her experience of teaching knowledge culture in KamoIntermediate School in Whangarei, New Zealand, in order to study “What and How”to teach in Knowledge Culture teaching, in the hope of exploring new ideas in theinternational promotion of TCFL.
