The Movie Trailers

Movie trailers constitute the advertising words with other propaganda material such as posters and reviews. Movie trailers become the effective media of catching audience’s attention by lots of transmission channels such as the Internet, TV and movie theatre. As the development and progress of the movie production technology, trailers had formed its unique characteristics and regular pattern.The main research objects of my paper are the Hollywood movie trailers in recent years. The paper focus on the trailer, analyses the narrative pattern and structures of trailers, and researches some existing regulations of trailers’making.The paper is divided into five chapters. It Include the introduction, text and ending.There is topics background and significance and present research situation home and abroad and the main idea in the production.The first chapter of paper discusses the relationship between the trailer and film. The paper regards the trailer as the Paratext (Gerard Genette) of film, researching the important elements of trailers. And then discusses the mutual text system constituted by trailers and movies and considering that the making of trailers reflects the Intertextuality. In addition, the paper holds a point that the audience of the trailers is an imaginary group and the producers of trailers make trailers by the assumption about the taste of audience.The second chapter of paper discusses the rhetoric of the trailers on the basis of the trailer text. There are some specific rules when trailers select image materials of films and regroup them according to some important factors such as the genres of films, style, and story. The paper tries to refine some common rhetoric methods of trailers and discusses the ideographic ways of trailers on the basis of trailers in these years.The third chapter of paper discusses narrative mode of trailers. There are some common practices when the trailers confess the plot of film and set suspense. In addition, there are certain rules of overall structure and layout to the majority of trailers. The paper named these common structures.The epilogue of the paper generalized the development situation of movie trailers of China, and compared the movie trailers of America to China.
