The progress of world diversity is going deeper and deeper, and the research on a single subject has been unable to satisfy people’s needs yet. Nowadays, as a kind of burgeoning translation theory, cultural translation has attracted more and more attention. Therefore, I am determined to write this paper from the perspective of cultural translation. Over recent years, there have been two noticeable phenomena in the unprecedented active translation field of China:one is an unprecedented attention on the research of translation theory; the other one is a keen interest on the translation from Chinese to English. In the1980s and1990s, with the upsurge of translation theory aroused by unique "cultural turn" in the West, Chinese also experience the practical course from importing and introducing to studying and creating, which also have two problems:first, the theory of cultural turn is rooted in western translation theory and produced on the basis of mutual translation between western languages. Therefore, in face with entirely different language culture type, how to make it localize is a research problem of translation theory we are faced of at present. Second, translation is an extremely complicated activity involving many elements, the main ones of which are:translator, author, source language, as well as text, target language, target reader and so on. Now, the centre of translation research has been shifted from the original author and the source text to the translator and the target reader, and what the researchers concern about is not the relationship of fidelity and equality between the original text and the translated text as cultural school and linguistic school emphasize. Moreover, the cultural school thinks that the translated text can utterly be broken away from the original text, being independent and working.Song is a kind of artistic form connecting language and music, carrying a lot of cultural information. Since the20th century, the rapid development of English lyrics translation from English to Chinese makes a prominent contribution to the cultural communication between China and foreign countries. In the past decade, the research on English lyrics translation from English to Chinese emerged endlessly in articles of newspapers and thesis. Many pleasant foreign songs spread widely in China, which is attributed to the translation of good lyrics, proving the translatability of lyrics. Comparatively speaking, though now Chinese is more and more popular, Chinese lyrics translation from Chinese to English is inferior to English lyrics translation from English to Chinese, which undoubtedly affect the spreading of Chinese culture, even the cultural communication between China and foreign countries. Therefore, it is necessary to make a deep research on the translation of Chinese lyrics. As an important branch of Chinese folk songs, Shanxi folk songs are popular with listeners for their plain language, rich content, full-bodied local color, unique singing style and artistic features. However, the translation of Shanxi folk songs cannot take translation field and music circles seriously enough. A good deal of dialect and local cultural color lyrics containing plenty of cultural information, greatly increase the difficulty of translation. The entertainment and timeliness of lyrics require target language readers to understand and accept the translated text under little annotation, and have similar feeling with source language audiences in the course of music appreciation. At present, researches of most of existing translated works of lyrics are made on the aspects of translatability of lyrics, rhythm of lyrics translation and matching of form, mainly focusing on the translation of English works, while few on the translation of Chinese works, and fewer on the introduction of cultural connotation in Shanxi folk songs. The differences between China and foreign countries can be seen everywhere, and the problem of the research on the translation of cultural information of Shanxi folksongs is whether we can introduce Shanxi folk songs into the world and make more foreign friends fond of folk songs better know China and learn the core of Shanxi, which is also my purpose. This paper takes the English versions of13Shanxi folk songs sang in "Changxiang Shanxi—Classic Folk Songs Show" as examples, starting with the relation of language, culture and translation, guided by perspective of cultural translation, from the angle of cultural information translation, makes an analysis of lyrics translation of representative Shanxi folk songs, stating the particularity of lyric translation of Shanxi folk songs, and with the differences of language, culture, and so on between China and foreign countries, the importance of dealing with the cultural information problem of Shanxi folk songs translation through cultural translation theory.
