The Translation And Report On The First Chapter Of500Attractions In Shanxi

The present project was to translate a book named500Attractions in Shanxi, which was a tourism text briefly introducing500scenic spots in Shanxi Province. The translator has translated the first chapter of this book in the hope of providing the first English version of it, building a platform for those who wants to know Taiyuan in Shanxi Province, and contributing a little to the globalization of the Shanxi tourism.As the first translator of this book, the translator faced many difficulties during the translating process, such as how to deal with the vacancy and non-correspondence of the Chinese and English words caused by the Eastern and Western cultural differences, and how to translate the four-character terms and poems from Chinese to English. Besides, it becomes another problem that either to widen the influence of the traditional Chinese culture or to make the readers understood firstly in the translating. Therefore, different translation methods should be used. And for the translation of this text aims to attract the foreign tourists, the translator chose the Skope Theory as the supporting theory for the whole translation.Based on the translating difficulties above, together with the final translation text, the translator composes the translation report on this translation practice after a comprehensive summary and thinking. The report mainly consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction which will briefly talk about the background, the objectives and the significance of this translation project; the second chapter introduces the book and its author; the third chapter is the main part of this report. In this chapter, the preparation work, the difficulties and the solutions will be presented, and the corresponding solutions are explained with forceflil examples in the text; the fourth chapter sums up the enlightenments and the unsolved problems from the present English version of the text.
