High Vocational Students’ Motivation In Learning English And Their Needs For English Curriculum

In order to explore motivation in learning English and needs for core Englishcurriculum, the study lies in the research on whether there were any significantdifferences among students in high vocational colleges from different grade levels, ofdifferent majors, and at different proficiency levels of English. A total of255studentsfrom six high vocational colleges in Wuhan served a questionnaire with31examinationproblems. Results from statistical analyses revealed a medium high motivationalorientation and medium low motivational intensity in the students, which showed aclose relationship of motivational intensity to learning channels, to motivationalorientation, and to English proficiency. Make the conclusion that the strongermotivational intensity the students have, the higher index scores in motivationalorientation can be developed, while students from different backgrounds demonstratedno prominent disagreements in their needs for English curriculum. There are sevenchapters in the thesis, the first chapter giving a brief introduction to the researeh.Chapter2analyses the background, goals and defects of teaching revolutions, callingfor revolutionary needs in current education environment. Chapter3has investigationand analysis of English leaming motivation for vocational colleges students. It showsthat the vocational college students have low English learning motivation.They havelittle interesting English, lowself-effieieney,extrinse leaming motivation and soon.Chapter4gives a brief review of the different theories of leaming motivation, andthen introduces some early researches in this field and the research work developed inrecent years at home and abroad.Chapter5shows the strategies to train and stimulatecollege students,motivation, such as attracting the students, interesting English,improving the students, self-efficiency, setting practical goals and so on.Chapter6is theexperiment.The result shows that the students in experimental class have higher level ofEnglish leaming motivation.Chapter7draws a conclusion and put forward somesuggestions for further study.
