With his extraordinary talents, Mr. Fu Baoshi has been a rising up new star in Chinese art world in the20th century. Under the prevailing trend of combination of Chinese and English in arts, Mr. Fu Baoshi develops a brand new style without following a set routine,making him reach the peak of perfection and becoming a great master in Chinese painting realm. He creates innumerable successful works in all his life, making a great contribution to landscape as well as figure paintings which embraces epoch-making significance from the aspects of aesthetics, social progress and national culture. In recent years, the figure painting of Fu are praised highly by the academic which is even claimed to be as good as his landscape painting. The figure painting of Fu are mainly classic, transmitting artistic imagery of simpleness. deepness and remoteness. Without doubt, this kind of orientation on appreciation of the beauty is the representation of grasping the essece of traditional Chinese painting and pursuing of "classic style". This thesis aims to make an enlightment for the creation of current Chinese figure painting through the further research on "classic style" in Fu Baoshi’s figure painting.To begin with, this thesis defines dialectically the conception of "classic style’" and expounds its manifestation and the development in art history in details. Secondly, combining Fu’s experience and art thoughts represented in his theoretical writings, this thesis tries to analyze the internal and external causes of forming "classic style" in Fu’s figure painting. Furthermore, the thesis explains the embodyment of "classic style" from the perspective of its content and form. The last but not the least, this thesis illustrates the source of "classic style" and enlightment for the creation of current figure painting by comparing Fu’s with those of ancient times and modern times which highlights the art characteristics.Collecting and analyzing the abundant writing and picture information of Fu Baoshi. the author afresh experiences the emergence of "classic style" in his figure painting from the viewpoint of image analysis in order to acquire the profound and vivid cognition of "classic style". Lastly, the objective of thesis is to discuss the eternal appreciation of beauty across the time and space in art through the research on "classic style" in figure painting of Fu Baoshi.
