With the rapid development of the global Integration in economics, culture, education, Chinese people have been performing increasingly profound and comprehensive interactions with the outside world. English, as a "world language" is just like a bridge between China and other countries. Therefore, higher and higher requirements for English learning and teaching are raised.However, among problems of vocational college students due to the discrepancies between different languages, Chinglish rising in the process of their English output is very striking and deserves exploration, which is labeled Chinglish or "misshapen or hybrid language" by Pinkham and really a great barrier for vocational college students to express proper English.Attempting to analyze systematically its manifestations, causes of Chinglish and implications for English learning and teaching, the comprehensive study ranges from Chinglish at different levels to possible ways out. The author conducted the investigation and the study in Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies from many different perspectives, hoping the thesis may theoretically and practically in certain degree enrich the study of Chinglish for vocational college students despite of some limitations and defects.The thesis on the basis of theories of second language acquisition, such as error analysis, contrastive analysis and language transfer and so on, explores Chinglish made by vocational college students comparatively and systematically, makes it clear about the manifestations and percentages of Chinglish at different levels, and then analyzes the causes of Chinglish in detail, suggesting that teachers be more tolerant and patient towards students’Chinglish by not only giving students grade but also expounding the innate character and suggesting targeted access to standard English. Besides, targeted implications and measures related to minimize and avoid Chinglish are proposed in the thesis to enable more efficient English learning and teaching.The study is elaborated in seven chapters. The first chapter introduces the research background, objectives, as well as importance and outline of the thesis.The second chapter reviews the previous studies by western and domestic scholars on Chinglish, normative English, as well as comparison between Chinglish and China English. The third serves as theoretical framework which ranges from second language acquisition theories related to error analysis, interlanguage, language transfer as well as fossilization to the theory how language, culture and thought are linked. The fourth chapter describes the study design and methodology, demonstrating participants from the vocational college in the study, questionnaires and tasks intended for them, and procedures in detail. The fifth chapter reveals the results from the participants in the study by collecting and categorizing data and explores further the status quo concerning vocational college students’Chinglish and analyzes what cause Chinglish of vocational college students. The sixth chapter presents some targeted pedagogical suggestions to minimize vocational college students’Chinglish and advance more efficient teaching. The seventh chapter draws a conclusion about the study, hoping the research to some extent may theoretically and practically contribute to the study of Chinglish for vocational college students and teachers despite of some limitations and defects.
