As a crucial factor influencing communication quality and interpersonal relationship, social skills has been given increasing attention whether in research area or application field. In the west, research on social skills has achieved a fruitful result, especially Riggio’s basic social skills model and his standard scale Social Skills Inventory (SSI), which significantly enhanced relevant research. However, in China, research on social skills is still at the initial stage, and the lack of localized scale is one important reasone why this field can not get fully developed in China. The study is an attempt to obtain a reliable and effective Chinese social skills scale, through scientific and precise translation and repetitive investigation into the reliability and validity of Chinese version of SSI (CSSI). The study is divided into3stages:In stage1, we translated SSI with preciseness, appropriately integrating Chinese culture into the words while sticking to SSI’s original content; In stage2, we investigated the reliability and constructive validity of CSSI, using item parceling method to conduct confirmative factor analysis, while employing emotional intelligence、social anxiety and6personality factors from16PF to investigate CSSI’s convergent and discriminant validity, and revised CSSI based on item analysis; In stage3, we investigated into the revised CSSI targeting Chinese in-service staff again, focusing on its predicting effect to variables like perceived support in workplace、 workplace exclusion、team-member exchange, as well as work satisfaction. We applied various statistic techniques, and proved as following:1. Basic social skill is a6-dimension model, including:emotional expressivity, emotional sensitivity, emotional control, social expressivity, social sensitivity and social control.2. CSSI demonstrated satisfying psychometric properties, proved its reliability and validity, possessing itself with the value of wider use.3. CSSI displayed a significant predictive effect on perceived workplace support workplace exclusion、team-member exchange and job satisfaction.
