Despite the fact that translators are the center and subject of the translation activity, they have long been neglected in the long history of translation theory. With the appearance of "Cultural Turn" in the western translation research in the1970s, more and more researchers have been concerned about the studies on translator’s subjectivity. However, these studies mainly focus on the translator’s subjectivity in literary translation, little attention has been paid to the translator’s subjectivity in news translation. This thesis firstly introduces the conception of subjectivity and the translator’s subjectivity. Then it aims at analyzing how the translator’s subjectivity is revealed in news translation. As the reader of the source text, after understanding the source text, the translator displays his subjective initiative in selecting certain proper translation methods such as adding translation, omitting translation, substitution, adapted translation, altering the subject, etc. to convey the information to target readers efficiently. However, in the translation process, the translator himself may be constrained by such elements as the source text and the original writer, the translator’s competence of understanding the source text, etc. |
