Yi Gu And Land Reclaimation In Ordoso

The land reclamation carried out by Qing government in late Qing in Ordos region is a huge policy shift toward the Mongolian. In1902(the year of Guangxu twenty-eight), the land reclamation of the western part of Inner Mongolia region chaired by Yi Gu marks the stage of land cultivation stepping into the official reclamation stage from the private sector. Cultivating the land for six years brought huge financial income to the Qing court as well as cultivated more than tens of thousands of lands. This paper focuses on the following aspects:the awareness of land reclamation in Mongolia by Yi Gu, the questions and countermeasures in the reclamation process, thoughts and preparation as well as implementation of land reclamation and other aspects as well. At the same time, the land reclamation had a two-way historical influence: firstly, it effectively alleviated the financial crisis as well as alleviated the contradictory between man and land, in addition; it promoted the formation of town in the late Qing Dynasty and the economic and cultural exchanges between the minority of Mongolian and Han; Secondly, the land in Mongolian was over reclaimed, which made it impossible to develop sustainable, hence, the economy of animal husbandry in Ordos region is gradually degraded, causing ecological environmental havoc.The paper made an exploratory research on the relationship between land reclamation in Ordos and Yi Gu, expecting people to realize that land reclamation should follow the law of nature. Now, it is very difficult to solve the problems which were caused by land damage. Therefore, I do hope that people should accumulate experience as well as draw lessons from the past and follow the scientific principles, laws of nature so that people can make great contribution to the long-term development in Ordos.
