As one of the first deputies to Orff foundation, Prof. Hartmann has given lectures in China for more than20years since Orff Schulwerk was introduced into China in1980s. From the viewpoint of historical development, the past two decades for Prof. Hartmann to popularize Orff Schulwerk in China is just the time for the rapid growth of music education in China. The manner and acceptance for the spread of Orff system at different stages in China reflects the psychological change of Chinese for the acceptance of pedagogics. The introduction of western pedagogics is arguably the turning point of the music education development in China, which has a far-reaching significance. As the teaching experience of Prof. Hartmann in China being a clue, this article discusses the stage characteristics of the cognition of Chinese to Orff Schulwerk from unfamiliarity to understanding, and from enlightenment and contradiction to assimilation and innovation, and the influence of spreading Orff Schulwerk on the reform of music education in China.
