According to U.S. National Comorbidity Survey, following bydepression, alcohol dependence and phobic disorder, theobsessive-compulsive disorder is the fourth common disease. In recentyears, the number of studies on obsessive-compulsive disorder haswitnessed a rising trend, but the clinical effect is barely satisfactory,causing more and more researchers attention. Meanwhile, affecting bysocial and school environment, the college students usually imposemuch stricter requirements on themselves than the common socialgroups, consequently the higher sense of responsibility andachievement motivation increase the probability of bad spiritualexperience, such as anxiety and obsession. Taking the students withobsessive-compulsive symptoms as the research objects, this study triesto figure out an effective way to identify the students withobsessive-compulsive symptoms and a series of applied interventionstrategies.With the development in nearly half a century, sandplay therapywith its unique advantages is widely applied in Europe, North Americaand Pacific Rim. This kind of therapy can not only avail visitors in ventingout their repressed emotions, inextricable intrapsychic conflicts,negative beliefs and attitudes, but also help to spread out fear, anxiety,worries and other negative emotions caused by the situation,promoting ego integrity and intrinsic nature. Therefore, this paperattempts to identify the college students with obsessive-compulsivedisorder and then implement intervention strategies by utilizingsandplay therapy.The present study including two research contents is designed toprove the effects of the sandplay therapy in identifying the students with obsessive-compulsive symptoms and implementing theinterventions.In the first research, the author selected38students (including19college students with obsessive-compulsive symptoms and19commonstudents) from Shanghai Normal University to contrast the differentsandplay performance, attempting to figure out the uniquecharacteristics of the sandplay works made by students withobsessive-compulsive symptoms.In the second research, by case study, the author utilized sandplaytherapy to give treatment to two college students withobsessive-compulsive symptoms, so as to verify the intervention effectof sandplay therapy for obsessive-compulsive symptoms.The results are as below:1The comparison between the two groups in sandbox operationhas showed that there is no significant difference in the quantity andtypes of gadgets like plants, animals and transportation used by twogroups, but the frequency of movement of the group withobsessive-compulsive symptoms is higher than that of normal group.2As for the sandplay themes of two groups, the features ofwounding themes including chaos, disintegration, limitation,negligence, hurt, threat usually appear in the sandplay works ofexperimental group, while the characteristics of healing themes, suchas integration, join, mobility, thoroughness, nurture, rebirth andregression are rare. It is worth noting that there is significant difference insix thematic characteristics, chaos, disintegration, limitation, negligence,threat and rebirth between control group and experimental group.3By horizontal comparison of case studies on sandplay works, theauthor found that both of the cases have gone through the troublerendering-conflict intensifying-transformation-healing phases, however,the distinct differences of the emergent moment and duration of every phase result in the different effects.4Through vertical analysis, the author also discovered the themesof wounding were gradually reduced in two cases, while the themes ofhealing witnessed a growing trend. Therefore, the changing of thesethemes may be used as the evaluation criteria of the interventioneffect.5With the help of sandplay therapy, the SCL-90scale of two casewas significantly lower in force factor points to normal, the students’negative emotions incurred by obsessive-compulsive symptoms haveeased and they are able to engage in their daily lives.Finally, the author has pondered over the problems found in thisstudy and expressed a series of expectations, hoping this study couldprovide reference and practical value to college teachers, student’sparents and researchers.
