The number of boarding school students has being increasing in recent years, boarding school students leave their parents and live a collective life in boarding school. They usually can’t be used to the academic, interpersonal and conventional life in boarding school. In this study, junior high school students in boarding school are selected as participants, empirical investigation is used to gather first-hand information and data we have collected are processed and analyzed by SPSS17.0software, in which one way ANOVA and correlation analysis are adopted. According to the data’s description of students’adaptation in boarding school, analysis concerning the influence of gender, grade, family background, parent-child communication, and the environment within a class on students’adaptation in school life are made. Lastly, suggestions and countermeasures are put forward according to conclusions.The results of this study are as follows:1. From the overall situation of junior high school students’adaptation in boarding school, the author fund that the adaptation of conventional life is the worst and adaptation of academic life follows. Problems in daily routine life are mainly as the following,"bad sleep in school","insufficient nutrition", and "sense of insecurity about one’s property". Besides, students in boarding school are incompetent to use their money properly and they may spend money with no plan at all; in academic study, they lack initiative and planning, but they are fully aware of the importance of collective accommodation to their study; in interpersonal relationship, the relation among students are better than student-teacher relation, which needs to be further strengthened. The self-recognition of boarding students, self-identity and self-acceptance of boarding students are quite satisfying.2. Analysis of factors affecting students’ adaptation in boarding schools:In personal factors, gender has an impact on adaptation of study, regular life, and interpersonal relationship. Adaptation of the girls is better than boys. Grades also have an impact on regular life adaptation and academic adaptation. In the family factors, income of a family affects a student’s adaptation in interpersonal relations, in which the income of a family is positively related with a student’s adaptation in interpersonal relationship. Family atmosphere has an impact on self-adaptation, in which a harmonious family shows a more positive effect than families with quarrels. Parent-child communication affects the boarding school students’ academic and general life adaptation, in which students that communicate more frequently with their parents have a better performance both academically and in daily life. Class cohesion affects boarding high school students’ academic, daily life adjustment, peer relationships and self-adaptation. The students in class with strong cohesion are better in these areas than those students who are in class with weak cohesion.According to the above findings, the author attempts to put forward some suggestions and countermeasures from perspectives of schools, families and students themselves, hoping to promote students’ adaptation in boarding high schools.The innovation of this study is as follows:From the perspective of the Ecology of Human Development, this study analyzes functions and influences of family, school, class and several other systems on students in boarding schools. Meanwhile, the features and characteristics of students in boarding schools are analyzed, for instance, their genders, grades, etc. Due to the limitation of author both academically and in ability, this study needs to be further improved in certain aspects. And the methods and means of researching needs to be improved if a comparative study between boarding school students and non-boarding school students is to be carried out.
