Study On Jiangzuo Monk Poet Lingyi

Liu Meng De Corpus volume23Che Monk Corpus Preface recorded that:" The monk poets called by common people are almost from Jiangzuo area. The trend is emerged from LingYi, followed by HuGuo, developed by QingJiang, FaZhen,is subsequent." LingYi praised as the vanguard of the monk poets in JiangZuo area is looked upon the development history of JiangZuo monks poem creation, which concerned about not only LingYI’s creation, but including the profound cognition of his influence. The research about LingYi is not thorough and comprehensive in current academia, only mentioned in some treatises and some paragraphs in books, involving the outline of LingYi’s life story、works discourse, but which is only the part of the overall monk poets, being lack of special、systemic、exhaustive、in-depth investigation, especially the problems about his life、contact and works needed farther textual research and differentiate and analyze. This thesis regards The Complete Poetry of Tang Dynasty as the reference. The mainly content is the discriminate of LingYi’s contact relationship、works differentiate and his statue and influence over monk poets afterworld. It divided into four chapters.The first chapter is contact discriminate. Based on the existing research result, related the mutualpresent poems, the people is classified as literary man、placeman and hermit、monk、Taoist. The emphasis is inaccurate and not yet discriminates.The second chapter is the works farther textual research and differentiates, including author correction and various verse definition. The author correction contains being LingYi or not in reality. The various verse definition refer to The Complete Poetry of Tang Dynasty and other editions, expecting to establish the more standard LingYi’s poems.The third chapter is the study of LingYi’s poems. LingYi’s mutualpresent poem and zen Buddhism poem could attain emotion introjected into landscape, sad but not lament state by means of metre rigorous、polishing words and imagery. Being observant of the Buddhist commandments and chasing the metre rigorous is consistent. Simultaneously the lack of realistic content is undisputable fact.The fourth chapter is to evaluate LingYi. In the history of monk poet’s creation, LingYi as the vanguard of the monk poets in the Jiangzuo Area influences the later monk poets creation to a certain extent, his identity transforming from commandment monk to monk poet, the art style changed from natural and fluent to metre rigorous painstakingly. Meanwhile, LingYi’s travelling trackway is throughout Mid-Shan and as far away as Da Lin Monastery in Lu Mountain、Qi Xia Monastery in Runzhou, which not only expanding the space extent of "The road of the Tang poetry", but also enriching its spiritual connotations, attracting uncountable later generations to travel landscapes owing to admire noble characters and sterling integrity of prominent personage.
