WuChu DaGuan(1201-1268)was the fifteenth generation of Lin Ji school and the third generation disciple of DaHui ZongGao.As one of the famous Zen master in the late Southern Song Dynasty,Da Guan lectured in the Zen and connected the Quartet to promote the survival of Buddhist monks,the maintenance of the Buddhist system and the promotion of Buddhist thinking and Buddhism.He also promoted the development of Zen in the Southern Song Dynasty even in East Asia.Da Guan was a Abbot's secretary at first,he had a good literacy,so is known as a “poem monk”.He authored twenty-five volumes of the collected works WuChuShengYu.There were seven volumes of poetry and eighteen volumes of essays.This book has been lost for a long time in the country,and it was only spread because of the spread in Japan,which also had an important impact on the Wushan literature in Japan.The main activities of Da Guan's life were in the Zen society of the Zhejiang provinces.Through the connection of the time background,combined with Da Guan's friendship,writings and records,the Zen society of the Zhejiang provinces in the late Southern Song Dynasty were explored and analyzed.In order to explore the poetry proposition,literary literacy and Zen cultivation under his poem monk identity.Da Guan was dissatisfied with the tendency of the poetry world to study the late Tang style's binding rhythm and sculpting words,and put forward the proposition of "natural writing" poetry creation ideal and " thought-based" poetry aesthetic ideal.Da Guan also advocated learning from the best people before.Tao Yuanming's light and natural artistic style is his goal of learning,and his works also have obvious traces of imitating Han Yu.Da Guan has about 562 poems,which can be roughly divided into four categories:the Buddhist poems,the exchange poems of making friends,the poems of the interest in life and the poems of worring about the people.From the perspective of his poetic form,all forms are available,including ancient poem,quatrain,Chinese metrical verse,long poem in regulated verse,four-character poem,six-character poem and so on.From the perspective of poetic style,the style is diverse,the ancient poem is forceful and irregular,Chinese metrical verse is mature and neat,and the quatrains are beautiful and natural.He interacted the "enlighten Zen with poetry" from the standpoint of Zen and the ‘metaphor of poetry with Zen' from the standpoint of poetry.With his good literary and profound cultivation of Zen,he not only brought Buddhist expression to the Southern Song Dynasty,but also contributed to the poetry creation in Buddhism.Da Guan has about 553 essays,all of which are quite skillful.His essays not only describe his story and friendship,but also his appraisal of the art of calligraphy and painting,as well as the recording of other Zen monks' deeds and activities of in the Zen society,which is an important aspect of the Zen culture in the Southern Song Dynasty.Da Guan also has a volume named WuChu DaGuan Zen Master's Quotations included in the Continuation of Tibetan scriptures,which is an important material for the analysis of his Zen thinking.Buddhism works in the volume can also complement the Da Guan's creative style.
