Study On Zhu Xi Ben Yi (the Original Meanings Of Zhou Yi) Of The Yuan Dynasty

Absorbing the essence of the I-ching learning of the Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi’s ideas were established as official learning material of the Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dunasty as well as Qing Dynasty. His advacation on I-ching learning was mainly reflected in His book Zhou Yi Ben Yi (the original meanings of Zhou Yi),the influence of which not only can be seen on its popularity and multi-versions in following centuries but also on the rich notes and commentaries, making it occupy an important position in the history of I-ching learning. Selecting six classes of important notes and commentaries in the Yuan Dynasty as examples, the paper tries to make sense of the study of Zhu Yi Ben Yi (the original meanings of Zhou Yi) in the Yuan Dynasty.Those who did the notes and commentaries were followers of Zhu Xi. The development of the school could be concluded as follows:Firstly, illustrations of Confucianism were on the increase while its original works on Confucianism selected were on a rise. Secondly, considering the ideas of Zhu xi, it mainly focused on corrections and breakthroughs instead of doubts. Thirdly, the attitudes of those who did the notes and commentaries were changed from expanding the early Yuan Dynasty’s, protecting their tutor’s ideas to imperial examination affected, gradually official ideas influenced, which led to the birth of imperial examination materials.The works on Zhou Yi Ben Yi (the original meanings of Zhou Yi) in the Yuan Dynasty have its unique features. They centered on logic and reasons, though absorbing Zhu’s ideas of logic, divination and meteorology. When explaining Zhou Yi they emphasized on exploration of logic instead of explanations of words in ancient books, which inherited the tradition of Zhou Yi in Song Dynasty. Besides, they dared to put forward their ideas and reinforce Zhou Yi Ben Yi (the original meanings of Zhou Yi). Taking in the formats and ideas of the notes and commentaries of Yuan on Zhou Yi Ben Yi, the works on Zhou Yi Ben Yi (the original meanings of Zhou Yi) in the Ming and Qing Dynasty were diverse.Clarifying development of the school on Zhou Yi Ben Yi (the original meanings of Zhou Yi) in the Yuan Dynasty not only does good to analysis and development of Zhu Xi’s I-ching learning,but also is of great significance in understanding I-ching learning history in the Yuan Dynasty even its history in the Ming and Qing Dynasty.
