The Study Of The New Words And The New Meanings Of Words Of The Vernacular Inscription In Yuan Dynasty

The Vernacular Inscription in Yuan Dynasty is colloquial official documents that inscribed on stele by people at that time. On the one hand, its content involves politics,economy, religion, law, geography, social life of Yuan Dynasty, and its provides us with the most reliable data of the age (from TaiTianChenFu); On the other hand, Vernacular Inscription is typical representative of translated literature of Yuan Dynasty. And lots of Mongolian are mixed in its language, but its basic vocabularies and grammars are still based in spoken Chinese.We make the Vernacular Inscription in Yuan Dynasty as our research materials,analysing and counting the total number of its new words and new meanings of words.On this foundation, we can conduct the taxonomic study.The article is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction that firstly separates the narrow sense of Vernacular of Yuan Dynasty from the broad sense, secondly introduces the research significance, operational research results, and this paper's research methods about new words and new meanings of words of the Vernacular Inscription in Yuan Dynasty.The second chapter discusses the new words of the Vernacular Inscription in Yuan Dynasty. First, we put forward the judging standard about the new words. Next, we explain some of the specific new words. Final, we can conclude six production ways of those new words, which are phonetically-translated foreign words, idiomatic expressions of official documents, union of two words which have the same meaning, concretion of two different words or phrase,and suffi addition.The third chapter discusses the new meanings of words of the Vernacular Inscription in Yuan Dynasty. First, we put forward the judging standard about the new meanings.Next, we explain some of the specific new meanings. Final, we summarize two evolution approaches of those new meanings of words, which are extension and grammaticalization.The fourth chapter demonstrates the supplement of The Great Chinese Dictionary, it means that use the new words and the new meanings of words of the Vernacular Inscription in Yuan Dynasty to fill the gaps in inclusion, explanation and documentary evidence of the vocabulary entries which in The Great Chinese Dictionary.At last, the article concludes all the points mentioned above, and points out the deficiencies of the research and future direction.
