As one of the most important parts of culture, folk culture has rich connotation and plays an essential part in promoting Chinese national outstanding culture. Translation as a tool for human culture communication has great influence on the transmission of culture, especially at the present stage when cross-cultural exchanges are becoming more and more frequent. However, there are few researches on folk culture translation. With the English version of promotional material of Mazu culture on Meizhou Island as an example, this thesis analyzes the existing problems and discusses translation strategies of folk culture from the perspective of Skopos Theory. Due to its distinct cultural individuality and intense national characteristics, we should translate folk culture with a view to transferring the deep cultural connotation, and choose the most suitable translation method to maintain as much message as we can in order to promote and advance the outstanding culture.
