Deverbalization In Consecutive Interpretation

According to the Interpretative Theory of Translation, deverbalization is an essentialand indispensible part of interpreting practices. However, the ability to deverbalize is neversomething exclusive to interpreters and it can be improved through training. Consecutiveinterpretation is divided into three steps in this paper, namely memorizing, note-taking andexpressing. And interpreters’ ability to deverbalize is required in every step.This paper attempts to analyze the author’s ability to deverbalize in the case of theChinese–English Consecutive Interpretation of Enterprises and Green Economy. And threecoping tactics are suggested to strengthen interpreters’ ability to deverbalize inChinese–English consecutive interpretation: to be well-prepared before practices; torestructure original sentences in notes; to reduce the dependence on notes with the help ofeye contacts. The aim of this paper is to help interpreters to give interpretation based on theintended meaning derived from the context rather than on the words in source language, toimprove their ability to deverbalize and the quality of the overall interpretation.
