| Mass culture was born in western industry society and gradually occupied the culture hegemony in the western world. In China, along with the rise of market economy after the reform, especially the science and technology innovation, and attacks of the globalization wave at the same time, mass culture springs up rapidly in our country and shows a lot of new development trends. In these trends, some vulgar, low and kitsch cultural phenomena and cultural products emerged from the mass culture development process have aroused great concerns of the government and academia. The paper carries out some useful discussion based on this background through the research and analysis of mass culture and the vulgar phenomenon in mass culture.In the introduction, the paper conducts a summary of the background and significance of the topic and the current research status of related topics at domestic and overseas. The first chapter is the definition of the core concept of mass culture in this paper, including the development history exploration of the mass culture, analysis of links and differences among mass culture, mainstream culture, elite culture and popular culture. It discusses the basic features overview, development overview and history and the current situation of mass culture in China.The chapter Ⅱ analyzes the vulgar phenomenon in mass culture in detail on the basis of a large number of facts, including specific performances of vulgar, low, and kitsch culture and the vulgar phenomenon of mass culture in TV shows, newspapers and magazines, online media and advertising media.The chapter Ⅲ analyzes the causes of vulgar phenomenon, mainly including the media’s own lack of self-discipline and responsibility, imperfectness of government regulations and laws and the guiding effect of the audiences’cultural needs and so on.The chapter Ⅳ is based on the analysis of former paper proposes suggestions for governance of vulgar phenomenon. For example, use Marxism-Leninism as a guide, establish correct cultural perspectives, strengthen the professionalism of media workers, enhance audiences’media literacy education and build a comprehensive and systematic monitoring mechanism etc. |
